Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a master's degree in English literature. Mitchell joined KYW Radio and TV as an Philadelphia reporter in 1967. In 1976 she was a part of the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV located in Washington DC (then WTOP). Then she joined NBC News Washington two years following that as general reporter. The year 1980 marked the beginning of her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the chief congressional journalist. She was made Chief White House correspondent in 1992. And Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell appeared as both an anchor and a panelist on the TV news show Meet the Press. Mitchell was a part of the panel at the 1988 Presidential Debates, which featured George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell got married to Alan Greenspan the former chairman of Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to recognize her excellence in journalism. In 2004, in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contributions to protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the first reporter to write about White House stories for NBC News during the time of Ronald Reagan as president from 1981-1988. Mitchell covered a wide range of important stories including the Iran Contra scandal, fiscal tax reforms, and the arms control. Mitchell traveled along with Reagan on numerous occasions to meet with Reagan on numerous occasions for summits, and to discuss topics including that of the Iran Contra controversy.
